Everything you need to know about bond building treatments

What are bond building treatments, do you need them and how do they work?

Want to give your hair new life?

Bond-building products have been getting a lot of buzz for awhile now. If you haven’t tried a treatment yet, it might be because you’re not sure it’ll work, or maybe you believe in the product but don’t love the price tag.

Well, the Bleach team believes in the power of bond repair, and here’s the science to back it up (plus the secret to beefing up your bonds without breaking the bank).

What does bleach do to the hair?

Let’s talk hair structure! Before we look at how bond-building works, you need to understand a little about your hair and the ways it can become brittle, dry or dull and need repairing.

The hair strand is made up of a few different types of bonds that live inside the hair cuticle, keeping your locks looking strong and healthy. When you bleach your hair, peroxide (the stuff you mix bleach with) releases oxygen inside hair fibres, lifting the colour out to lighten your hair but also weakening the bonds.

Your locks can become less than luscious from other things like heat styling, perming, sun or chlorine exposure and brushing. Bleaching or any of these other factors could contribute to split ends, a dry look and feel, dull hair and raised hair cuticles.

But no one wants to be miserable, stuck inside, never using a curling iron and never changing their hair colour – right? You’re still going to do those things, and so how do you bring your hair back from the brink?

What do bond-repair treatments do?

One of the easiest and quickest ways to restore hair’s strength, shine and softness after bleaching is to use products with bond-repair technology. These treatments contain ingredients that penetrate individual hair shafts and strengthen weakened bonds on a cellular level.

You can still achieve great results this way, but most products out there are protein heavy or are only designed to target one type of bond.

Not to toot our own horn, but our Reincarnation Range was created specifically to solve this gap in the market, made with ingredients to build two types of bonds for a complete wash routine and all-around strengthening.

The best ingredients for bond building

The new bond restoring Reincarnation Shampoo and Conditioner both contain Creatine to help build electrostatic bonds, and when used in tandem with our bestselling Reincarnation Mask, they form a super nourishing routine!

The shampoo and conditioner are built on a base of Panthenol, which is ultra moisturising, and both contain an Amino Acid Complex to help soften your hair, add vibrancy and be kind to your colour. They’re also packed with Hydrogenated Castor Oil and Wheat Microproteins that instantly smooth the hair fibre, creating a shield to defend against future damage and leaving your hair silky soft.

Now, enter Reincarnation Mask, and the party really gets started! The mask IS amazing on its own, with the antioxidant properties of its Sunflower Seed Oil. But when combined with the shampoo and conditioner, the mask’s veggie proteins penetrate the hair cuticle to help build cross-linked bonds for double the bond building!

Use the shampoo and conditioner every time you wash and complement with the mask once a week – for hair that feels soft, strong and healthy!
