Alex transformed Sarah’s waist-length hair to a dreamy, creamy blonde with smokey purple tips. Sarah,a psychology student from Austin, Texas, says she loves having blonde hair because she can change her hair easily by painting on whatever color suits her mood in that particular moment.

Alex gave Sarah the big chop for her second look, taking her from blonde to a light ginger shade.

POP ON SOME COPPER

Alex gave Max a creamy blonde with plenty of root left over to fit the valet’s self-described “thrifty, skate style.” His regular haunts are charity shops in Austin, where he can find clothes to fit an aesthetic modelled after his parents (who he describes as style icons).

This blended-root look is easy to grow out if you don’t like to DIY or head to the salon too often (maybe you’re also too busy thrifting!).

When it came to this hot pink look, Alex wanted to capture the rebellious spirit that kicked off Jasmine’s first forays into experimenting with hair color –  a previously-forbidden skunk stripe she tried out at 18. 

Jasmine, who’s a forensic scientist assistant from Houston, Texas, was glad that Alex chose a big, bold color that she wouldn’t normally have tried herself! 

GO PINK

“Every time I bleach my hair, I’m carefree. A blonde mindset is not only carefree, it’s confident as well” - Kristopher

To capture psychic Kristopher’s strong creative energy, Alex wanted to create something new. He’d tried hair art before, so the pair of them researched together before landing on something delicate and floral, which Alex then hand-painted onto Kristopher’s icy white buzzcut.

We recommend grabbing some paint brushes, a few bowls and a friend if you’re undertaking any hair art. This look will also work best on a bleached blonde buzzcut for a smooth canvas.

GET THE LOOK

A flaming red face-frame is always going to draw attention! 

Alex wanted maximum contrast for this look, so she turned the rest of the hair ice blonde for Jaide,  a California-born embroidery artist currently living in Brooklyn who describes her personal style as “cartoon character”.

PAINT THE TOWN RED

“I think it really affects how you accept change in the rest of your life if you’re  willing to change your hair” - Georgia 

Of course, we had to sneak Bleach co-owner and supermodel Georgia May Jagger into the campaign line-up! 

Working with Bleach, Georgia has had almost every color under the sun on her head, so for Georgia’s first look, Alex gave her a natural-looking buttery blonde that’s super easy to recreate at home!

How to dye your own hair bright yellow

Georgia used to be afraid of doing anything too drastic with her hair, and she’s still a bit wary of yellow, so the only thing to do was give her a bright canary-yellow bob for her second look. This was a wig, created by senior Bleach stylist Alisha Dobson, but one day she’ll let Alex do it for real!

Alex wanted to give Will, an advertising student from Washington, D.C., a clean, bright white icy blonde. Contrasted against his dark brows and 5 o’clock shadow, the bright blonde reflects Will’s signature grunge-meets-streetwear style.

SET YOUR SIGHTS ON ICE WHITE

For Will’s second look, Alex wanted to channel his desire to never ‘underdo’ himself and always go a bit further than whatever he last did with his hair. 

Alex used the clean blonde base he already had and layered on pastel purple dye for a sharp, cool purple finish. If you’re also already starting with blonde, skip to step 3!

TURN VIOLET, VIOLET!

“I’ve been a blonde pretty much my whole life until about two years ago, when I started finding myself…I express my feelings with my hair colour” - Tabby

Alex wanted to give this model a fun, youthful look that reflected her willingness to experiment with hair and complement her colorful, edgy personal style. 

Tabby from Tulsa, Oklahoma is a lash artist who made her mother cry when she dyed her own hair at 13. She loves how no one – including herself – knows what she’s going to do with her hair next. 

Strips of dyed hair like this is a great way to play with color and you can easily try new shades when the originals fade!

HAIR BY THE SLICE

“I feel like my blonde side is my creative side…but then I have my natural brown side; that's just my calm neutral side. Ying yang” - Cinthia 

Cinthia, a tattoo apprentice from New York City, already wore this half and half style – which she and Alex agreed represented the different sides of her personality as well as her heritage. Instead of changing it up, Alex wanted Cinthia to truly feel like herself, so she only touched up Cinthia’s roots and toner. 

Cinthia first dyed her hair (bright red) to relieve stress as a pre-med major and just do something for herself!

When concepting this look, Alex wanted to express how the model uses their hairstyle to communicate their identity to others. She chose to give art student Leo secret slices of slime green blended with clementine orange that flash in and out of view with every swish of the head. 

Leo, who lives in New York but grew up in Shanghai, used to get a lot of stares for their hair choices but they embrace being different and are excited to see people becoming more accepting of hair and difference in general!
